You will now have to pay more for express trains tickets

With the Indian Railways deciding to increase tariffs for Rajdhani, Shatabdi and Duronto express trains with a hike in standard meals served on these through its subsidiary — the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism (IRCTC) — from March 29, 2020, the passengers of these trains will have to give  3-9% more if they opt for standard meals.

As reported by Hindustan Times, a cup of tea which currently costs Rs. 29 will cost Rs. 35 in AC First Class as per the new rates. Breakfast which comes at Rs. 133 will cost Rs. 140 and lunch and dinner which are currently available at a price of Rs. 175 will cost Rs. 185 in AC First Class.

In AC Second Class, AC Third Class and AC chair car, a cup of tea which currently costs Rs. 15 will come at a price of Rs 20, breakfast which costs Rs. 97 will be available at a price of Rs. 105, and lunch and dinner which now costs Rs. 175 will be cost Rs. 185.

“The tariffs of Rajdhani/Shatabdi/Duronto trains have been revised after six years since the last revision in 2013, while the tariff of standard meals for mail/express trains after seven years … With a view to arrive at realistic prices, a committee was nominated by the Railway Board to examine and recommend the revision in menu and tariffs of these services…Based on the reports of the committee, the revised menu and tariffs have been notified…,” the Ministry Of Railways said in a statement on Friday.
